Series: The Beatitudes
"Blessed Are the Pure in Heart"
Matthew 5:1-12
"Blessed Are the Pure in Heart"
Matthew 5:1-12
- To be "pure in heart" is to be like God in His character in a life that trusts and seeks Him in all things. Jesus points this out as one of the specific Beatitudes that He prioritizes in a life of faith that He is establishing in us. What priority does seeking to be "pure in heart" have in your day to day life?
- A proper understanding of the Gospel in our sin and shame is that if we sin and run away from God, we misunderstand God's grace for us. But if we sin, and run towards God, who offers us mercy and compassion, then we understand the Gospel. Reflecting on your life habits of wrestling with your sin and shame, which way do you lean with this and why?
- To be "pure in heart" has primarily to do with our relationship with God, but is also a template of our relationships with each other. We were created for community and called as a church. How can we practice vulnerable sharing with one another, receiving and giving humble and merciful accountability and walking together in the character of God?
